James Lin, president of the Saipan Garment Manufacturers
Association, explains a point to U.S. Interior Secretary Gale Norton
while Gov. Juan N. Babauta looks on. Also in photo are SGMA Executive
Director Richard Pierce, left, and Interior Deputy Assist. Secretary
David Cohen. Norton and her delegation toured United International Corp.,
a garment factory in San Antonio, during a recent visit to the CNMI.
That evening, she informed the Saipan Chamber of Commerce about the visit
and told them "the problems that had been so much of a controversy
in the 1990s now seem to be largely behind us while improvements are
still being made. I think that things are looking very good.. From other
federal officials, I have been hearing that so much progress has been
made. I think that is truly encouraging."
